ABOUT US

Back in the Summer of 1984 my father David and I decided we would open a restaurant and we named it after my grandfather Joseph.  The building was  originally my dad's sugarhouse where he made maple syrup and had a gift shop called "The Sugarmaker."  In one month we put together enough equipment to get started. We would go to the grocery store at the end of each day to buy the next day's supplies.  We could seat 20 people and had 19 plates!! And we sold coffee for 5 cents a cup!  We served breakfast and lunch at first but it wasn't too long before we wanted to expand into dinner as well...we just needed the right idea, something a little different.  Thus, The Spaghetti Shed. Our first menu offered only spaghetti but we soon began serving pizza as well. I have since expanded the menu to include other Italian favorites and some non-Italian items too.  YES, we still have our fantastic bread!!

Well, here we are 22 years later! A lot has changed here since the days of 19 plates. Many of you who visit us know that my husband Kevin and I have two beautiful children.  Susie is now 10 and David will be 7 in August.  During your visit  there is a very good chance you will see them down here "helping."  (This growing family is the main reason I decided to cut back to serving only one meal a day - sorry all you breakfast fans!).

SWEET IDEA!… Any celebrations in your future?

A few years ago I established The Sugarmaker Bakery here at Joseph's.  To my delight, my wedding cakes have quickly become the first choice of many brides (and grooms!)to be. I'm also bake other specialty cakes...birthday, baby shower, retirement, etc.... and  desserts to order.  I am very interested in starting to cater open houses and parties with my baked goods too! During the holidays I am particularly busy making homemade pies and have even won the local apple pie contest a number of times!  If you are interested in ordering or want to pass my name on to someone you know, please pick up a business card in the entry.  Also, check out our display fridge for goodies you can take home now!

Another great thing happened for us this Spring.  Joseph's was featured in Fortune Magazine!!!  The magazine does a column called "Eat At Shrib's."  The author, David Shribman, had eaten in the restaurant and wanted to let others know about us!  Our local Conway Daily Sun also did a super write-up following our appearance in the magazine.  Pretty Great!! More recently we got quite a mention in WINTER (ski NH magazine) in an article about dining out in ski country and The Mountain Ear did an awesome write-up on my Boston Red Sox pies! (You can see the articles very proudly framed in the entrance way!)

              ---new---

A great place for a party!

I am now planning on expanding my business in a different way during my “down” months in the winter…catering private parties here!  The possibilities are endless…rehearsal dinners, holiday parties, kids’ themed birthday parties, bridal shower brunches, office parties, etc.!  Look for my brochure at the front and spread the word!

                     JOSEPH’S SAUCE AVAILABLE TO GO!!

At the moment, I can pack sauce fresh for you or you can take it frozen to thaw and enjoy in the future. (This makes a great gift to take back to friends and family!)  Just let your server know and we will pack it up for you!  There are a lot of ins and outs to the bottling process, but hopefully, by this time next year, Joseph’s White Mountain Marinara will be ready to distribute!!

So, whether this is your first visit to Joseph's or you are a "regular" we hope you enjoy yourself and that you will come back to join us again.  Please sign our guest book and feel free to leave a comment.

Thank you for your patronage!
